Just when I thought…
So I started a new thing…gardening! A while back I grew some green onions but have been wanting to grow my own food for a while. This spring, I finally bought some seeds for mesclun, spinach, microgreens, and bell peppers. I bought the soil and the pots, and when it seemed the chance of frost was gone, I planted the seeds. As I covered them with dirt and watered them for the first time, I was so excited! I finally took a leap of faith and planted the seeds.
After a few days, the microgreens began to sprout. Then a few days after that, the spinach and mesclun began to sprout! Every day, I would water each plant and after I watered them, I would pray over them. A farmer once told me: if you want to increase your prayer life, start a farm. My farm is still in the making, but I definitely pray more now that I have a veggie garden! I can sew seeds and water the seeds, but only the Lord can provide the increase (2 Corinthians 9:9-11).
After the second week, the spinach, mesclun, and microgreens grew even more while the peppers showed no sign of germination. The third week came, and the microgreens were ready for harvest, the spinach had grown more, and the mesclun grew even taller while the peppers still showed no sign of germination. The fourth week came and the spinach and mesclun were still growing while the peppers showed no sign of germination. Keep in mind, every single day (given maybe 2 or 3 of not watering them) I would water the plants and pray the Lord would provide the increase, protect them from pests and animals, and that the plants would mature to full term. At this point, I am a little frustrated with my peppers, I have done everything I know to do yet still nothing is growing! I started to water the pepper plant less (don’t recommend that by the way) wondering if it was just a bad seed and if I should just give up since I didn’t see any signs of life.
The following Monday, I came outside to water and pray over each plant. And still everything but the peppers was growing. Tuesday came, and at this point, I was thinking about tossing the pepper plant out, it was past the date I thought it was supposed to germinate, and figured maybe God just didn’t want it to grow. So as I go down the line watering and praying over each plant, I stoop down like I normally do to pray over them and see the smallest bit of green! I leaned in closer to see if my eyes were fooling me, but I was not fooled, the plant indeed was growing!
Right in my backyard, I shouted “Hallelujah”! I was so overjoyed that the Lord not only heard but answered my prayer and provided the growth of my pepper plant! You may be thinking “it’s just a pepper”. No, it’s a miracle! Just when I thought I wasn’t going to see it come to pass, yet chose to wait/push/seek just a little longer…BOOM, He does a miracle! So what’s the point, don’t give up! Even if it looks overdue, like it’s dead, or out of the question, just hold on a little longer. Whether it’s a godly spouse, miracle baby, lost souls coming to the Lord, family/friends coming back home, deliverance and freedom, or another pure desire that will please Him, remember that we are talking about the Lord. Nothing is too hard for Him, we just have to believe in Him, submit to the details of His will, and serve Him while we wait. The Lord is faithful, He will do it.
1 John 5:14-15 (NLT) “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.”
Matthew 9:29 (AMP) “Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith [your trust and confidence in My power and My ability to heal] it will be done to you.’”
Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
